Service, Surf, & Yoga in Sri Lanka
November 12-19, 2017
Over Thanksgiving 2016, I worked with 1000 dogs, many disabled, at Animal SOS Sri Lanka in the beautiful southern province of Sri Lanka. It was here that I learned the true meaning of gratitude and selfless service. The shelter dogs appreciate every ounce of love they receive, and they reciprocate back! Join me as I travel to Sri Lanka this fall. This retreat is designed to be somewhat customizable in order to make it more affordable. If you've wanted to travel across the world but haven't known where to start, this is the trip for you! Beautiful beaches, some of the best surf in the world, adorable dogs, great food, mindful yoga, dance parties on the beach...this Sri Lanka retreat has got it all!
Location: Our group will be hosted by Sion Surf Lagoon Camp in Ahangama. This hideaway of Southern Sri Lanka overlooks the surf break at Devil's Rock and all rooms have an ocean or lagoon view with private balconies.
Service: We will spend 4 partial days* volunteering at Animal SOS Sri Lanka. The shelter currently houses about 1300 dogs, many who are disabled or require special care. Working with the dogs can be as simple as playing with them and showing them love, which they gladly reciprocate back. We may also take the disabled dogs to the ocean for hydrotherapy, run them in their wheelchairs, offer massage, or give them baths. This will certainly be the highlight of your trip, but should you chose to skip the service work, you can spend the day at the beaches instead.
Surf & Yoga: Southern Sri Lanka is the world's best kept secret when it comes to clean surf breaks and blissful private beaches. Sion Surf Camp will lead our group in two surf lessons, but you could surf every day if you'd like. Of course, we will also practice daily yoga and meditation.
This trip is limited to 10 participants. Registration ends October 1!

Travel & Accident Insurance When I was robbed while traveling in India, my World Nomads travel insurance saved me. It covered replacing my passport and stolen items as well as putting me up in a hotel for 3 nights while I sorted things out. Had I been injured while hiking up to Machu Pichu or contracted dengue in Thailand, it would have paid for my hospital visit. After working in insurance for 10 years, I can vouch for this travel insurance and I'll always travel with a policy through World Nomads. |
